Both clients are leading media groups with a multi-country footprint spanning CEE, MENA and Africa, and a portfolio of TV platforms, TV channels and video services. As they prepared to list on international stock exchanges, their growth story rested largely on emerging and frontier markets, where they saw their strongest upside but where public, comparable market data is thinnest.
The challenge
International investors expect every growth assumption in a prospectus and roadshow to be defensible. For well-documented markets, that is relatively simple. But a large part of these groups’ growth potential sat in tier-2 and tier-3 markets, where audience figures, advertising spend and subscriber data are often fragmented, outdated or simply unavailable.
Our clients faced three issues:
- Credibility: projections built mostly on internal estimates risked being challenged by analysts and underwriters.
- Comparability: data across countries came from different sources and methodologies, making a consistent regional story hard to tell.
- Granularity: investors wanted to see where growth would come from, market by market, not just an aggregated regional target.
The solution
Dataxis provided both groups with harmonized datasets covering all their current and target markets. The data included subscribers, reach and revenues projections across TV, video, connectivity and hardware equipment, backed by market-level demographic and economic indicators.
Working with the groups’ strategy and finance teams, as well as their advisors, Dataxis helped:
- set a consistent baseline for each market using a single methodology across all regions;
- translate group-level ambitions into market-by-market objectives tied to observable market dynamics;
- build scenario-based forecasts (base, upside, downside) that could be stress-tested during due diligence;
- fill the data gap on tier-2 and tier-3 markets, turning them from a question mark into a documented part of the equity story.
